Dr. Tariq M. Hassan’s Bio

Forensic & General Psychiatrist | Educator | Researcher | Advocate

Dr. Tariq Hassan is a Canadian psychiatrist with over two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in psychiatry and forensic mental health. He is the founder and Medical Director of Summit NeuroCare, a private clinic based in Kingston, Ontario, offering innovative, evidence-based care including psychiatric consultation, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), ketamine therapy, and EMDR.

Dr. Hassan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in both Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK). He previously served as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Queen’s University, Chair of the Division of Forensic Psychiatry, and Clinical Director of the Forensic Program at Providence Care Hospital. He has also held key provincial and national leadership roles, including Chair of the Ontario Forensic Directors’ Group and Founder of the National Forensic Collaboration (Canada).

Internationally recognized for his work, Dr. Hassan received BJPsych International’s Most Downloaded Paper Prize for his research on terrorism and mental health in Pakistan. He is the lead author and editor of an upcoming textbook, Forensic Mental Health in Pakistan: A Guide for Mental Health and Law Professionals, and the creator of a Queen’s University-accredited forensic mental health course in Pakistan. He has also advised judicial and correctional systems in Pakistan and Canada on bridging the gap between mental health and the law.

Dr. Hassan is equally dedicated to community work. He runs a school in his ancestral village in Pakistan, offers free educational programs, and engages in charitable initiatives with his family. His work has been featured by the BBC, Global News, Providence Care, and Queen’s University Alumni Impact Profiles.
